Summary OMBAC RSL v Belmont Shore RSL On a
beautiful day in San Diego Belmont Shore handily beat OMBAC
yesterday by a score of 58 to 17. Graham Bullen refereed a fast
paced match that Belmont Shore controlled from beginning to end.
Belmont Shore scored their first of 8 trys within two minutes of the
opening whistle as their inside center, Steelie Koro, dotted down
under the posts and flyhalf, Leigh Peina, converted. About ten
minutes later OMBAC flyhalf, Matt Alexander, converted a penalty to
put the home team on the score board. However, that was to be OMBACs
only score in the first half. Belmont Shore converted a penalty of
their own a couple of minutes later, putting them on top 10-3.
Belmont Shore scored two more trys in the first half, one by taking
away an OMBAC scrum, and another penalty conversion to end the first
half on top 25-3.
Belmont Shore immediately opened the second half with a converted
try after only 7 minutes. Belmont scored three more unanswered,
converted trys, before OMBAC could even get on the boards again.
After about 70 minutes of play OMBAC scrumhalf, Ghian Snyman,
finally made it into the end zone for OMBACs first try, which
Alexander converted. However, the unstoppable Belmont Shore came
right back to score their 8th try of the match. OMBAC scored the
last try right on full time as they went down to the reigning
champions, 58-17.
OMBAC would be hard pressed to pick a most valuable player but
outside center, Chris Frara, made many try saving tackles or the
score would have been even more lopsided. Belmont, on the other
hand, had many standouts in their impressive showing.
