Their unwavering commitment to sports, community involvement, and philanthropy has significantly impacted the San Diego region. This dedication to excellence has earned OMBAC a reputation as a respected and influential organization.
With its rich history and inspiring work, OMBAC continues to bring individuals together through sports and community engagement.
History
OMBAC’s official beginning was in 1954, but its roots can be traced back to the late 30s, 40s, and early 50s. It was during this time that the unique spirit and attitude of OMBAC, rooted in the friendships formed in Old Mission Beach, began to evolve. The common denominator was a strong desire to have fun!
OMBAC’s journey was challenging. In 1958, the closure of the Old Mission parking lot and the relocation of the lifeguard station left members needing a central meeting place. The Club drifted apart until they established a new location in South Mission.
1964 was a pivotal year for the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. It was during this year that the Club underwent a significant reorganization, sparking a new vitality and determination. The survival of the Over-The-Line Tournament during this period was a testament to the resilience of a few die-hards.
The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club is a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit organization with 325 members based in San Diego, California. The organization continues to enjoy the respect and admiration of the community. Focused on serving amateur sports and youth athletics, the club enjoys unmatched leadership. If not for the dedication of its members and the unselfish gift of their time, they would no longer exist.
